august 15, Our lady of the rock

At this location the Virgin appears in the sky--usually near the sun--where cameras are able to capture her. More than 20 years ago, Our Lady of the Rock appeared to Acuna while she knelt in Lopez Canyon in supplication. In response to her prayers, the Virgin cured her daughter of leukemia. Acuna describes Our Lady of the Rock as a beautiful, 5'5" 18-year-old who looks like a cloud. Acuna is not a nun, but she wears a white habit / a white veil, white gown, and white gym shoes. She lives in a trailer with four women she addresses as "sister." She drives or is driven in a green Dodge Caravan. THE RITUAL Hundreds or thousands of pilgrims arrive with their Polaroids. Whenever Acuna looks skyward, they snap at the sun. They then examine the photos for holy-shaped blotches. One article calls this thepaparazzi-to-the-heavens routine. Some people see nothing when they snap at the sun. Acuna says: "I cry for those people. For those people it looks like a basketball. This is my worry. For people to die believing in nothing." Alternatively she says: "The blessed Mary came to see you. It doesn't matter if you see her." WHAT PILGRIMS HAVE SEEN/SMELLED THERE
Our Lady of Fatima also appeared on the 13th of each month, beginning on May 13, 1917. Her final appearance was on October 13 of that same year. Alexandrina da Costa was paralyzed by a 13 foot fall, lived solely on the Eucharist for 13 years, and died on October 13, 1955. STARRING AT THE SUN In Denver in 1992, Theresa Lopez saw apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the sky, and witnessed "sun miracles." The Virgin cured Lopez of ovarian and uterine cancer. Theresa soon prophesied that the Virgin Mary would appear for all to see on January 12, 1992 (perhaps, by the aforementioned logic, this is one day shy of a miracle date). 6,000 hopefuls arrived to see Our Lady, but she never appeared; however, several visitors suffered permanent eye damage as a result of staring directly into the sun. |
